Casting for The He!p

Have you read this book?

Everybody I know is reading or has already read it. Even my sister! I think she’s only read 2 books in her whole life.

Why am I asking?
Because it’s seriously one of the best books I’ve EVER read.

Now, for those of you who have already read it, you prolly know that it’s set in my hometown and Dreamworks (no shit. THE Dreamworks) is filming the movie in our state starting next month.

Here’s a little map that shows you how close I am to the setting of the book:

Interested in the casting so far?  First let me tell you that TLF signed up to be an extra in the movie. I hope he gets it. Now, here is what I have so far:

And as soon as saw this next one, I already knew who she would be playing:

In case you were wondering, yes Bryce Howard is indeed Opie’s daughter. I think she’s precious.

This book really moved me. I find myself looking at every old woman, black and white, thinking, “did you get treated like a Nigra house servant? ” or  “were you one of the white bitches in that book?”.  It’s not likely, but I still think it.

I have a suspicion that I know who Hilly (the SUPER bitch) was based on. I know, it’s supposedly fiction, but it just fits all too well.

Anyway, get the book.  If enough of us read it, I’d love to discuss it. I can also show you some pictures of the places that are written about.

Okay, I’m done.

  1. Well looks like I am going to the bookstore this weekend! Don’t be posting any spoilers and ruin it for me…. It sounds interesting. I also happen to love some readheads. Bryce Dallas Howard yummy. holla!

  2. Always on the hunt for new stuff to read, so thanks for the recommendation.

I have no idea who any of the actresses are, even after hovering over the photos. If TLF gets cast as an extra though I think we’re all going to have to buy the DVD when it comes out.

  3. I just downloaded the book yesterday. I should have it read by the time the movie comes out.

  4. Hitting my library’s website PRONTO!

The best thing about being an extra on a movie or tv show? The copious amounts of free food.

The worst thing? Volunteering to do something like hold up a sign in a crowd scene only to realize that you are now required to hold the sign for as long as they tell you to, which sometimes will be quite a long time.

  5. I’m on the way to the library today.

I’m still convinced that I know a few people from Fannie Flagg’s books.

Hope TLF gets into the movie. How cool would it be to stand up in the middle of the (glasgow) movie theater and yell, “I know that TLF!!” ???

    • Well, don’t anyone spill the plot! I’m on the library’s list so it may be a while before I get my hands on it.

  6. TLF and I are being nosy. They are scouting a site for filming and we keep walking down there. Not much to see though.

  7. I, too am hitting up my library’s site.

Way cool TLF has a shot to be in it!

  8. Bayou read it and loved, loved, LOVED the book. Sounds like a fascinating read.

  9. Frankly Syd, you should apply as a Production Assistant. Productions companies like to hire a certain number of locals to keep the good will of the locality they are shooting in. Find the production company and bombard them with your awesomeness and detailed knowledge of the location and your deviousness at working around and through various systems.

    • Maybe if I tell them how we used to get drunk at Belhaven College and then drive down Riverside Drive, because it’s so bumpy, and see who hits their head on the roof first…they might be impressed.

Or maybe the time I purposely ran over every single one of those pole looking things that pop back up, down the middle of the same street. Had to tell my dad that a squirrel ran out in front of me because it dented my car. He said, “next time, run over the goddamned squirrel”.

Most of the filming is going to be done in Greenwood, a couple hours away. I think I’ll still look into it. Thanks.

  10. Bumfuck is finally on the map.

  11. Go for it Syd you might have found your calling.

  12. Reading it right now, sort of [work's finally keeping me busy]. Love it.

  13. Bryce Howard needs to go to church and thank god for not giving her daddy’s looks.

  14. I’ll read the book AND go to the movie if TLF is in it! Heck, I’ll even make MY nephews watch it…hehehe

  15. Never heard of the book, but will download it for my next read. Hope TLF gets in the movie!

  16. Going to the bookstore tomorrow, can’t wait to read this!!
